December 10, 2010

I have been listening to the radio every morning. The hosts of this radio talk show give Chritmas to a different family who can't afford it) every morning. They ask what their children would want. Most of these families ask for bigger christmas gifts then I even get... Play sets, Motor scooters, golf carts, iphones, etc. But today it was different.

Their was a family whose house burned down the day before Thanksgiving. The mom of the family worked from home making cakes to earn a living. When this tragedy struck, not only did they lose their home but all source of income. One of the friends of the family nominated this family to receive this "Christmas" They brought this lady on the phone and she talked about what happened, always looking on the bright side. When they asked her what she wanted to have for Christmas, she told them to give the money that would have been spent on her to the Angel Tree organizaztion.

I was shocked.

Here is a family who lost everything. Living in a small run down apartment with a kitchen the size of a postage stamp trying to to make cakes for what little money she could get. Her kids not having a single toy. Not one. And she wasn't even the one telling the radio show this. Her nominator was. Not once did she brag about her situation and ho

And what did she ask for? Nothing. I felt greedy. I have so much and yet do I ask to give what I want to the Angel Tree? Of course not. I look up to her so much.

Always smiling.
Always looking on the bright side.
The true spirit of Christmas.

*And.. if you want to know what happened to her here it is: Kid Kraddick (the radio show) donated $500 in her name to the angel tree. They gave her a gift card to Toys-R-Us to buy toys for her kids and even gave her a rent out kitchen with all the supplies she needs to make the cakes until they can get back on their feet. She started bawling. Thanking them for everything. Does that just make you smile or what? :)
